Owner’s Description
GINGER, a NG Herreshoff Coquina cat ketch, was built by the owner in emulation of Dave Corcoran’s interpretation of the original using Doug Hylan’s plans and Maynard Bray’s Insights. She was a pleasure to build in glued lapstrake Meranti marine ply; Honduras Mahogany backbone and transom and Black Locust framing; H.M. sheer strakes and thwarts; Atlantic White Cedar sole and margin boards; Butternut decks and sternsheets and Sitka Spruce spars with B.L. gaff jaws. Culler pattern oars and beavertail paddle in Sassafras. Sails by Gambell and Hunter. Bronze hardware and anchor by Jim Reineck & Son.
She has been a delight to sail since the day of her launch in 2015, a fantastic daysailer and surprisingly versatile camp cruiser. Easy to trailer, launch and rig; she has cruised waters from Charleston harbor and the surrounding lowcountry to Downeast Maine to Lake Michigan. Her usual cruising ground is the Chesapeake where she has provided many adventures and proven the old saw that waterline length is inversely proportional to enjoyment.
