Owner’s Description
Agape is a classic deep keel hull design built to explore the world. Efficient to sail yet robust and strong to be safe all the time. Traditional teak interior with modern upgrades, She feels like you are in a time piece of days long gone by. Sails and rigging are all updated and renewed. This boat was designed for small crew or even single handling, A pure joy to see if you appreciate classic beauties.Agape was originally laid up in 1976 at the C&L yard in Taiwan as a Stan Huntingford designed Offshore blue water cutter rigged cruising auxiliary. Bought in 1990 by the previous owner because he was looking for a capable vessel with a deep draft, long keel, large lateral plane and an effective righting moment, all desired from his earlier offshore experiences. These are also essential characteristics for working to windward in heavy conditions with a short handed crew and the ability to heav-to under survival conditions.
In 1990 the previous owner (An exceptionally talented Architect and Master Builder) started an extensive rebuild. He worked with the Designer Stan Huntingford (a personal friend) to reimagine the boat with some details that were originally considered for the build. The comprehensive restoration included: new engine, propeller, shaft, tanks, wiring, decks, chain plates, rigging, plumbing, counters, stove, refrigeration, floor boards, through hull fittings, pretty much the whole boat. He then started on the interior painting, soft goods, upholstery, hull above and below the water line. When finished you could consider it technically a new boat. Even today it has been kept in the highest state of condition you can find anywhere. Her 2021 survey describes her as in “Bristol” condition.
