Owner’s Description
Camas Moon is the first boat built to a new design by Tad Roberts of Silva Bay, BC. She was built by her owner as a pandemic project over the course of 2020-2022 and launched in late August 2022. She is a small, trailerable motor-sailer, 18’ LOD, 22’ sparred LOA, and a beam of 6 ½’. Her hull and deck are of marine play sheathed with fibreglass. She has a gaff yawl rig with a roller furling jib on the bowsprit. Designed for the specific conditions of British Columbia’s coast and climate, she has a pilothouse cabin that provides plenty of views and light while allowing the crew to stay dry at anchor on rainy days and nights. With her keel-up shallow draft of 9”, Camas Moon will be able to make use of the shallowest anchorages. Her 6 HP outboard moves her efficiently all day long in the summer calms, while her two solar panels power the electronics without having to run the motor on the days she doesn’t move.
On her maiden shakedown cruise, her owner sailed to the Victoria Classic Boat Festival, where she won the Best Tabloid Cruiser award. She sailed to Port Townsend the week following to take part in the first post-pandemic Wooden Boat Festival there. As with all boats, Camas Moon is a work in progress. Since the shakedown cruise, the boat has had about three dozen modification and improvement projects, including the addition of a small wood stove to extend the cruising season.Already a member?
