Mni Toe Wakpala (Blue Water Creek, Lakota) is a strip built recreation of Woodie Hindman’s first double-ender built for the McKenzie river, Oregon USA, in the winter of 1939-40. The lines of one of the origional boats were taken by Roger Fletcher in 1998 and found in his book ‘Drift Boat & River Dories’ 2007 Stackpole Books. Utilizing Western Red Cedar strip construction with fiberglass makes for a boat with light weight, flexability and the stregnth to handle Class III+ rapids on Western rivers. Mni Toe Wakpala was awarded ‘Boat of the Float’ at the 2022 Colorado Wooden Boat Float. The COWBF is a wooden boat festival that takes place the first weekend after Labor Day every year that attracts 30+ wooden Drift Boats and Dories from multiple states to float the Upper Colorado River near Bond, Colorado USA.
