Owner’s Description
Generally considered a lake boat from back east, this 1957 18′ cedar strip Peterborough Admiral is a long term west coast Gulf Island boat that was used by the caretaker of Prevost Island, just out of Ganges Harbour, for many years & then ended up in the attic of a shed for many more. Purchased in 2014 with no hardware or running gear it has been a great side project that is now on the home stretch.Rebuilding the nose, stem, keel, running strakes and a transom knee were the major woodworking tasks. All the cleaning, oiling and refinishing of the surfaces has been extremely rewarding as the aged wood comes alive. As a confirmed hardware junky I was able to quickly equip the Admiral with a myriad of bits & bobs from inventory.
The last bit of woodwork, the rub rails, were installed with help of my good buddies and with a borrowed outboard we launched on August 24th. This coincided with a Classic Yacht Rendezvous in my harbour and after 9 years she was floating alongside the mothership and floating cottage Sojourner, my 1939 Monk raised foredeck cruiser.
