Sam Rabl designed the Picaroon in 1925. Fair Dinkum was built in 1955 by Dean Stephens in Alameda, CA from the plans in Rabl’s book, “Boatbuilding in Your Own Backyard”. With a beam of 7’ 6”, and LOD of 18’ 3”, this is the perfect full keel pocket yacht. Fair Dinkum has sailed in the waters of Mexico, San Diego, San Francisco and all along the Pacific Coast. Currently, she is actively sailed and home-ported in Toledo, Oregon.Fair Dinkum’s “claim to fame” is her write up and picture in the Rabl’s well known book, “Boatbuilding in Your Own Backyard”. The Cornell Maritime Press printed “In June 1925 Sam Rabl’s design of the famous little sloop Picaroon appeared in “Motorboat” magazine and brought Rabl to national attention”.
