I found this presentation very incomplete. No detailed comparison to the various raids is discussed, in terms of creating a managing organization, organizer funding, insurance issues, logistics (trailering, shipping, moorage, booking land/campsites), provisioning recommendations, required/recommended safety equipment, required/recommended weather clothing, handling human waste, managing trash, handling weather prediction/routing, etc etc etc. All of these are necessary considerations in order to replicate such a larger group outing successfully. Nav charts are discussed only briefly, by requiring paper charts, and shared dinner is discussed also very briefly without detailing the logistics of that. No comparisons are made to the many general yacht club cruising rallies, which are regularly hosted throughout the sailing seasons. Finally towards the end there is mention of committee style organization to manage raids, and then charging participants for organizational costs ($120 per PERSON per night for nine nights!! $$$$! That completely changes the demographics of attendees and should have been described at the very beginning).
Turning an event into a race where there are points and/or winners with prizes is a significant drawback. Even if the prizes are token prizes or gimmicks. It is well known that prizes induce very different and poorer motivational behavior in participants’ psychologically compared to reward-free events.

Great presentation, thanks to you all. I’ve been following the “Raiding” movement from afar for many years, and, more recently, participated in the last three Barefoot Raids here in BC (as well as the first “Salish 100” in Washington State). I sure hope to keep raiding for many more years… and join you in Tasmania, Scotland, Venice, and the Baltic!

The first Raids I knew about were in a river in Portugal and Raid Finland.
