Owner’s Description
Originally built in 1932 for the Durban to Capetown (South Africa) race circuit, Banshee sailed to the Caribbean around 1965. She was purchased and brought to St. Thomas a few years later. I purchased her in 1971 and owned and lived on her for 11 years. After I sold her in 1982, unfortunately she was allowed to sink and was never recovered. Banshee was built of one-inch pitch pine over hickory frames, all copper riveted. Her interior framing was purple heart. Keelson was some sort of iron wood and she had two tons of black iron on her keel. While I had her she had a hand sewn main from Egyptian cotton that was done in Bequia. A very sea kindly vessel, she was a solid, seagoing boat until the end.Already a member? Log in herePhotos
