Owner’s Description
Sannox, named by a previous owner after a town in Scotland, was launched as the Fer-Lu in 1920 in Vancouver. Originally a steamer, she plied the waters of BC as a showcase for her owners marine business. The two owners, a Mr. Ferrier and Mr. Lucas , hence her original name, had a yard that built boats but for unknown reasons they hired a different yard, Kobayakawa Boatworks, to build this vessel. It has a single bunk forward and a single bunk in the wheelhouse….both for the crew. Two couches that double as bunks are in the aft cabin, which, together with the open aft cockpit comprise the owners quarters. Lots of brass remains inside, along with many other original fittings including stained glass cabinetry. The steam engine was changed for a gasoline power plant around 1925, and upgraded to the current engine about 1950.
Although the vessel has never left the waters of the west Coast, she has survived a theft where the thieves forgot to turn on the engine cooling system. The engine was fried and she never made it across the harbour. She has been used as a funeral barge, a drug smuggler and the Commodore’s vessel for the Classic Yacht Association. You can’t spend a century on the West Coast without having a few adventures along the way!Already a member? Log in herePhotos
