“Zannoula” belongs to the “Schakel” class, very popular in Netherlands from 1961 to 2006. From the first two years, 250 boats had been classified in the category. Initially the boats were wooden and later plastic.
“Zannoula” is a wooden boat with an aluminum mast and boom. She was constructed in 1977 with sheets of sea plywood (mahogany and fir). Her construction number is 2398 and it is engraved on the base of her keel. The boat was measured, rated and since then she participated in races until 2006 when her class was removed from official calendars. The racing crew is two people.
Her sails consist of a mainsail of 7.70 m2, bearing her class’s mark and construction number, and a jib of 4.20 m2. The mainsail can be trimmed by a sheet, outhaul, inhaul, boom vang and cunningham. The jib can be trimmed by the halyard and the sheets. The mast can be trimmed in terms of the position of its base (front-rear) and its inclination (right-left) by adjusting the length of the rigging. The boat is also equipped with a hanger kit and foot support straps, as well as a spinnaker pole for the jib, which is used when sailing downwind. She is supported by inflatable fenders in case of overturning. She is steered with a tiller and is equipped with a movable (popping) keel.
Externally, the freeboard is painted with black oil paint and the underwater part with red reef paint. The abacus, the tiller, the deck, the cockpit and all the other interior surfaces are varnished, maintaining the original wood visible (mahogany or fir).
The boat was purchased by the current owner in 2006, transferred to Nikiti of Halkidiki, Greece from the Netherlands and since then she is used for short sailing trips. Up to 4-5 people can travel with “Zannoula” due to her spacious cockpit.
