Early Gordon K. “Sandy” Douglass designed Thistle Class Sailboat. A Plumb Bow, Plumb Stern, Round Chine, open cold-molded mahogany hull, and Wood Gratings distinguish this lovely 17 foot class. This is an early example, which was assembled from a 1947 Douglass & McLeod Kit, (Hull #153), in the mid-late 1950s by a previous owner. I’ve done a bit of refurbishment, maintenance, and updating. Beautiful dark red mahogany w/ clear finish natural insides and out. She is still actively sailed and raced.
Wanna go fast,…..Sail a Thistle!!

We used to have a great fleet of Thistles in Long Island Sound when I was growing up. But they’ve been gone for quite a while now. Love to see them again.
Absolutely gorgeous!
Nice looking classic dinghy, but you wouldn’t want to capsize her, without any buoyancy tanks or bags.

This is a beautiful boat. I have always liked Thistles and raced on one in highschool.
