    Plumb-stemmed and plain finished, VELA surprises her shiny competitors when she occasionally enters a race. Not only is she speedy, but exceptionally easy to handle. Her symmetrical topsail with its yard-supported luff, for example, simply flips over from tack-to-tack—requiring only a fraction of the usual effort.
