Sail & Oar Expedition Wherry “Harrier”.After participating at several “Venice Lagoon Raids” with our 16ft. Cosine wherry we were looking for a larger boat, that could also serve to sleep on board. Searching for the “ideal” boat took some time, but an article in “Small Boats” special printing made the decision clear: I was hooked by the HARRIER, an Expedition Wherry with a yawl-rig, that can also be rowed looking forward, in “Venetian Style”. The last years we were sailing regattas for classic boats, “barche d`epoca”-“starih bark” in Piran ,Izola (Slovenja) and Rovinj (Croatia). Met there very nice people, made good friends and had lots of fun sailing together with so many different types of boats-wooden boats of course. Under a big tent at the dock we were invited to share some local food and wine.
Had good chats in 4 different languages, like slovenijan, italian, english, german .
After sundown, later in the evening a local chorus performed wonderful old songs of fishermen and their life in boats. We also met some shipwrights from Pula (Croatia) with their big wooden cutter TARTANA with a huge lateen sail, they bought in Sardegna (Italy). She was built in 1907 and they were sailing her around Italy. She was leaking badly, so they had to keep 3 pumps running all the time to bring her home to Pula.
Now she is restored to the original and is sailing freight along the Adriatic coast !Already a member? Log in herePhotos
