Caprice of Huon is a Robert Clark design, 45ft in length, launched in 1951 in Port Cygnet, Tasmania. She was built by Vivian Innes for the Tasmanian orchardist Calvert family.The boat has a famous racing history, particularly under skippers Gordon Ingate and Gordon Reynolds. Caprice of Huon was a member of the Australia Admirals Cup teams in 1965 (the series top scoring boat) and in 1967 (on the winning team).
In 2000 UK’s Classic Boat magazine named Caprice of Huon as one of the world’s top 150 boats.
Caprice of Huon was extensively restored in 1999 and enjoys an active schedule of cruising, club races and classic yacht events from the CYCA (Cruising Yacht Club of Australia). From her home in Sydney, Caprice has cruised to the Whitsundays, Lord Howe Island and Tasmania. In the CYCA Short Haul Series she won both IRC and PHS point scores in 2006/2007 and was first in IRC in 09/10, 10/11 and 11/12.
Caprice of Huon continues to bring joy to all who sail on her.
