Owner’s Description
Tempo’s lines were taken from a Crab Skiff on Hooper Island (Chesapeake Bay) in 1906. She represents the peak of sharpie evolution before internal combustion engines came into common use.We love how easy and quick she is to rig and launch. Tempo’s 15″ draft allows us to explore the shallows where others can’t. She’s rugged, I don’t hesitate to sheet in and plow across the occasional sandbar.
She’s seaworthy. We once were caught in a sudden 50knt front. The Leg-o-mutton rig allowed the sail to weather cock and we ran downwind to safety.
New 2022 –
Tempo now has propulsion means other than sail & oar. I installed a 2.2kw fixed pod motor with a folding prop. (Pics added). Having auxiliary power opens up whole new areas to explore.
50Kgs of lifepo4 batteries negated Tempo’s quick initial roll. Now the mast flexes and dumps a gust the way it’s supposed to.Already a member? Log in herePhotos
