59' Herreshoff New York 40 Class Sloop (1926) - MARILEE
Owner’s Description
Marilee is one of only 4 NY 40s still sailing.
The “fighting forties” are considered one of the most iconic and successful classic yachts ever built.
Under the stewardship of her former owner and captain Marilee was restored and brought back to her original sailing configuration through an extensive restoration at French & Webb from 2015 to 2017.
She is also uniquely “two boats in one” as she can be rigged as a gaff or a sloop true to Nat Herreschoff’s original designs.
In 2021, Marilee won the Classic Yacht Owners Association(CYOA) Challenge Series Overall and the Maine District in the Vintage Class.
In 2022, Marilee won the CYOA Maine District in the Vintage Class.
In 2023, Marilee sailed under her gaff rig for the first time since 2016, adding to her beauty underway. She won the Gaff and Schooner Division of the Eggemoggin Reach Regatta.
In 2024 it was back to the marconi rig for Marilee. Like in 2021, she won the Classic Yacht Owners Association(CYOA) Challenge Series Overall and the Maine District in the Vintage Class expanding her podium record since 2020 under her current owners.
Marilee is under new ownership and will be headed to her new home port, Porto Santo Stefano this summer. She will be joining her sister ships, Rowdy and Chinook, on the Med classic racing circuit.
