Owner’s Description
GRAYCEFUL is an International DRAGON class boat designed by the world famous Johan Anker in 1929. The DRAGON Class was probably Mr. Anker’s most successful design. Classic Boat magazine named the design as one of the top boats of the last century. Originally DRAGONS had two small berths and a few sparse cruising accommodations. GRAYCEFUL is similarly configured. She was built in Denmark in 1972 by Borresen Badebyggeriet (boatyard) of the finest materials, white oak frames and mahogany planks. Borge Borresen became known as “Mr. Dragon.” You will be amazed when you see her topside planks are TIGHT seamed and you can only ask yourself “How did they do that?!?” The workmanship through the boat is impeccable. Benjamin River Marine did extensive repairs which insures her longevity.
The measure of success of the DRAGON class can be judged by the selection in 1948 as an Olympic Class, an honor they retained until 1972. DRAGONS are still being produced by Borresen and other builders. The world wide class association sponsors competitive racing and DRAGON sailors enjoy splendid day sailing and cruising. Richard Rycroft exclaimed “Once you’ve sailed a DRAGON you won’t want to sail anything else.”Already a member? Log in herePhotos
