This is an Molitor sailing canoe built by Old Town in 1921 and given to my grandfather. It has been in the family ever since – and stored in our barn in Surry, Maine for my entire life. The sail is a lateen rig set on solid wood spars. There is a short tiller attached to the middle thwart that controls the rudder through a line on each side of the boat. The decks are mahogany, 36″ and 24″ long.
This boat is great for sailing and for carrying a load of camping gear. On one excursion, my partner and I paddled to an island in Moosehead Lake, Maine, USA where we set up camp for 2 nights. We then spent a day sailing around the lake in the canoe.

I like really enjoyed seeing your unique sailing canoe.
At your convenience if you would, please send a couple photos of the mast mounting areas and the keel board set up. I can see just a bit that got me thinking… awesome canoe.
Thank you,

I don’t have it with me. I’ll need to check the boat, and I’ll be there next weekend (after the show ends). I’ll be happy to send it to you if you let me know where. Years ago I took the canoe to Old Town and showed it to the folks there. They found the original paperwork and I probably have a copy somewhere.

Ken. Thanks for the comment and request. I’ll be happy to send you some photos as soon as possible (which will probably be in a few weeks). Greg
Nice story, what is the serial number?

Please send it to benson@maine.rr.com when you find it. Your canoe looks similar to the one at https://dev.classicboatshow.com/listing/18-old-town-wood-canvas-canoe-1921/ which was known as their Molitor model. Thanks,
