Owner’s Description
Rozinante. First owner was R. Midgley, on Prince Edward Island, after a few years of cruising in the east Coast, she was purchased by Russ Hollingsworth , trucked across the continent and sailed out of West Vancouver, BC. We purchased her in 1984, moved her to North Saanich on Vancouver Island and have sailed her in the southern Gulf Islands and San Juans ever since. In traditional Lunenburg construction, eastern white pine bronze fastened on oak frames. All bronze fittings Herreshoff or Merriman as was the norm at the time. Must have been well built as she’s still going strong into year 55. Original ! ! Main and Mizzen by Stevens (now Michele Stevens Sail Loft) in Lunenburg. Evangeline sports a hank-on working jib, a genny, drifter, and mizzen staysail, so no lack of choices or “strings” to pull. I have been doing pretty well all the maintenance but starting to get old and creaky @ 75y. Aspects beyond my capabilities covered by the Jespersens here in North Saanich with occasional advice from Bill Garden. Our faithful pram (Sancho Panza) is a Murray Peterson design now being produced in kit form by Duckworks.Terrific tender to our Rozinante Evangeline. Tows like a dream… has never shipped water, spins on a dime when tacking and doesn’t try to pass the mothership when we’re surfing or just drifting along. Woodenboat # 291 p 62 has an article about the pram’s original mothership (Fenwick William’s Annie) with a couple of pictures with the pram in tow on the Maine coast
