Owner’s Description
Pinocchio was conceived as a modern, light displacement yet robust cruising boat. She has proven to be fast, comfortable, dry and capable; her 2nd owners have made multiple trips up and down the California coast, have cruised for a summer in the PNW going north to Bella Bella, and have recently spent a winter sailing Mexico’s Gold Coast and into the Sea of Cortez. Pinocchio’s original owner reportedly sailed Her from Brazil to Portugal returning across the Atlantic to the Caribbean.
Launched in 1991, the original design concept was by German Frers with final construction design by former Frers’ studio designer, Nestor Volker. She was expertly and beautifully built over a two year period by Thor Achilles in Florianopolis, Brazil. Pinocchio is constructed entirely of West System epoxy laminated Spanish cedar. The hull is five layers totaling 7/8″ thick cold molded cedar over permanent frames and temporary molds and sheathed with Dynel cloth. Decks, house and cockpit are Spanish cedar plywood and also epoxy glassed sheathed. The aluminum rig is masthead and deck stepped, her bilges are bone dry. The interior is light and mostly varnished with good ventilation through large deck hatches and Dorade vents. Pinocchio’s modern underwater shape promotes easy surfing and she is nimble with a fin keel. The large rudder has a fully protective skeg which provides excellent directional stability. Pinocchio is currently berthed in the San Francisco Bay and is being enjoyed sailing trimmed without her usual compliment of cruising equipment onboard.Already a member? Log in herePhotos
