Owner’s Description
Wharram Tiki 21. Stitch and glue Douglas fir plywood. Owned for 10 years and traveled more than 6,000 nautical miles cruising (and sometimes racing) in the San Francisco Bay and coastal areas. One of the attributes of the Tiki design is that it does not have boards and only draws 14 inches. This has allowed me to cruise throughout the shallow San Francisco Bay and Delta, and spend many nights in shallow water anchorages where most sailboats cannot go. The Tiki is also suited to open water cruising because of the small rig and three water tight compartments per hull. The Tiki feels safe and reassuring in open water and I have cruised north to Bodega Bay, south to Monterey Bay and have made several trips to the Farallon Islands offshore from San Francisco. The original builder trailered the boat north from BC and explored the coast of Alaska. This is a fascinatingly simple but effective design for safe open water coastal cruising.Already a member?
