Seeing your boat, just made my heart skip a few beats! I owned, an identical Van Dyne Pinky, that as far as I know still is the only one on the West Coast. Her name was (maybe still is) “Tradition”. If you’ve ever received a copy of Small Craft Advisor Magazine, you may have, still can see her past cover shot of her. Josh Colvin, my friend and publisher liked her so much, she’s still on the subscription card in every issue.

      I. loved her so much that after I first found her on her side in a cow pasture and restored her the first time, cruised her in the San Juans, etc. and foolishly sold her to buy a bigger boat, I yearned to find her again, and finally did in about 2013. Bought her back, in much worse condition than the first time. Rebuilt her again and cruised and day sailed her again! I’m in Port Townsend still. I’ve moved on to two other boats, and in one corner of my heart, I still yearn for her perfection and grace under sail. So wonderful to see yours. If you feel like chatting about all things “Pinky” be certain to look me up. I’m on Facebook a lot. One of my current boats, a beautiful 26 yr old glued lap Melonseed, built by Barto, “La Vida e Bella” is here in the show. We can chat there too if you’d like. And certainly look me up for a sail, if ever you decide to come to Port Townsend for our festival or now our wonderful Salish 100 Rendezvous. (Once we all manage to row together to free our nation and our planet from this scourge of Covid, that is.)

I am interested in offering you a sail in my Mackinaw boat and possibly comparing the pinky with the Mackinaw. Let me know if you are open to the idea. Find my boat named Saga.
