Saona is one of two boats built to Philip Rhodes’ Saona design. She was built of predominantly of Huon Pine and other Tasmanian timbers, by Charles Lucas of Battery Point, Hobart, Tasmania.
She has always been based in South East Tasmania although she has cruised to New Zealand and Sydney.
Saona is a fine cruising boat and fun to race, but most of all she is family boat. Sturdy but sea kindly, she loves a breeze. Her centre board configuration helps her to work to windward whilst still allowing her to enjoy many sheltered anchorages.
She has been well loved and maintained but she is not a Steinway piano. She is well used and carries the patina of much sailing. And she is ready for much more …

am so grateful to have just watched this video. “Heart’s ease…” is what it gives. Beautiful boat, deeply meaningful thoughts about the values inherent in boats. Timely, as am also facing the future for my own boat. Your family is blessed to have their connection to Saona and by extension, others benefit, too, by listening and seeing your story.
Obviously a lovely, loved boat. Thank you
