Owner’s Description
William Trenholm of Victoria, BC commissioned William Garden to design him a heavy displacement ocean going vessel, built along the lines of the West Coast commercial halibut schooner. Trenholm, a capable and experienced boat builder, built Sayonara in his backyard. His love for a workboat inspired pleasurecraft came from his time as a youth working on West Coast seiners and tugs. Sayonara is massively built of sister keelson construction with oak ribs, fir planking, gumwood stem, shoe, stern post, horn timber and ring timber. Her engine beds are also gumwood as is the hull sheathing and main rail cap. Her interior is finished throughout in solid teak. Power is an 11 foot long Gardner 8L3 producing 152 HP at 900 RPM, turning a 56″ by 48″ three-bladed prop on a 3:1 reduction gear.Already a member?
