60' Garden Fishboat-Inspired Power Cruiser (1980) - SAYONARA
Owner’s Description
William Trenholm of Victoria, BC commissioned William Garden to design him a heavy displacement ocean going vessel, built along the lines of the West Coast commercial halibut schooner. Trenholm, a capable and experienced boat builder, built Sayonara in his backyard. His love for a workboat inspired pleasurecraft came from his time as a youth working on West Coast seiners and tugs. Sayonara is massively built of sister keelson construction with oak ribs, fir planking, gumwood stem, shoe, stern post, horn timber and ring timber. Her engine beds are also gumwood as is the hull sheathing and main rail cap. Her interior is finished throughout in solid teak. Power is an 11 foot long Gardner 8L3 producing 152 HP at 900 RPM, turning a 56″ by 48″ three-bladed prop on a 3:1 reduction gear.

Hi Jack……have not checked this website till now and saw your message of last year……I looked up your Garden double ender JoAhna…….really lovely vessel……they seem to be of similar size……the displacement of Sayonara is around 160,000 so similar scantlings I assume……I am envious of your twin screw as Sayonara has a single Gardner that is amazing but maneuverability is difficult in tight quarters……I am a sailor through and through and this is my first power vessel so steep learning curve……Sayonara is kept in a boat house (her original since launch) in Sidney BC and then at the dock at the farm on Gabriola for summer……be great to meet up sometime if you are ever in our area…..I am assuming you are west coast.
