Owner’s Description
Not knowing anything about boat building or working with wood or epoxy I built “MY KID” a Penobscot 17 wooden sail boat (beautifully designed by Arch Davis Design – Belfast, Maine, USA) on weekends between 25th February 2012 and 26th May 2019. The build was from 10 pages of Plans and Construction manual “Building the Penobscot 17 supplied by Arch Davis.
The build took 2,356 hours and the boat is built from Douglas Fir (stringers, cap rail, moulding rail, tiller, and oars), AAA Marine Ply (bulk heads, seats, hull), Sitka Spruce (mast, boom and gaff) with Spotted Gum (knees, breast hook, elbows, oar locks and floor boards). The centre board and rudder blade are built from laminated Red Cedar and White Ash).
Planking and Surfaces are sealed with fibreglass and West Systems epoxy resin. Hull is painted White with Admiralty Blue top Plank. Sails were designed and made by Ullman Sails Wynnum Queensland to fit the Gunter Rig. Outboard motor is 9.9hp 4 stroke Yamaha. “MY KID’ was launched and christened by my kid on 3rd November 2019 at Jacobs Well, Gold Coast Qld, Australia.Already a member? Log in herePhotos
